First Light Festival presents…Ocean Songs

If you were at First Light Festival 2025 you might have seen Ocean Songs at dawn - a magical experience as the sun came up - or on the Sunlight Stage on the Sunday morning.  If you missed it or want to relive the exquistie music again, come along to East Point Pavilion for a special launch event.

Commissioned in 2025 for First Light Festival and Royal Museums Greenwich, Ocean Songs will take you on musical journey across our blue planet.  It is a “docu-pop” project that merges ambient, contemporary classical, jazz and rock music, connect us with our ocean. Ten songs explore whales, waves, myths and climate, with spoken-word contributions from oceanographer Helen Czerski and broadcaster George Monbiot.

At the heart of the album is an ambitious cross-genre lineup featuring Lottie P of RoughTrade post-punk outfit Goat Girl; Steve Pretty, leader of the explosively energetic Hackney Colliery Band; boundary-pushing contemporary composer Colin Riley; and Smith Quartet founder and electric violist Nic Pendlebury.

The result is musically rich and complex, drawing on unusual sounds such as conch shells, electronically manipulated vocals and trumpets, bowed wineglasses, and electric viola. Each song explores a different facet of our planet’s oceans.

Doors open: 7pm
Concert starts: 7.30pm
