Melting Pot: Vintage Sewing Workshop

Step back in time and discover the joy of sewing on beautiful vintage hand-crank sewing machines — no electricity, just the gentle rhythm of your own handiwork and the sound of the sea outside.

In this a relaxed three-hour workshop, you’ll learn to stitch your very own simple teddy bear to take home. Sewn from a simple four piece pattern, you'll choose fabric, cut it, sew in some darts, add plastic eyes (or embroider on afterwards if the teddy is intended as a gift for small children), stuff and finish with a ribbon bow around the neck.

All equipment and materials are provided, but you’re welcome to bring along preloved clothes to use - woven fabrics work best. Stretchy cloth is less effective but still possible; the Singer sewing machines available don't have zig-zag options so the straight stitch that will be used is prone to snapping and creating holes in the seams of stretchy fabric. Various patterned and plain woven cloth will be available to choose from.

Enjoy a creative late morning session with sea views, friendly company, and a touch of nostalgic charm. Perfect for beginners or anyone who loves relaxed mindful making.

Take home your handmade Teddy bear.

Tickets: £10 (plus booking fee). Book online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/first-light-festival-cic/melting-pot-vintage-sewing-workshop/e-yjzlke
