‘FotoGraf’ Photography Exhibition & Workshop
FREE
Drop in from 10am
The Exhibition
A showcase of work telling the story of ‘Fotograf’, through inspiring photographic works by the children we work with in Uganda.
We will have literature and trustees present throughout to talk about their work and showcase the amazing creative visuals that are created.
Capture the opportunity to purchase unique prints from our young photographers in Uganda and join in with our free activities such as colouring sheets, guess the camera year competition or take part in our mini workshop.
The Workshop
Lead photographer and founder of Fotograf, Julian Claxton will be running a free basic photography workshop – getting the most from your camera. Tips for improving your shots, from portrait modes to sport, including basic editing tips.
Scavenger hunt for our young visitors – we will have 10 items on a ‘Fotograf’ tick list, with the idea that using inspiration from the children’s work on display, young people are required to capture all the items on the list as creatively as they can.
Mission
Our mission is to empower and inspire disadvantaged children and young people in Africa by providing access to creative education through photography. We believe in the power of self-expression to build confidence, nurture creativity, and enable young people to document their lives on their own terms. Through our programmes, participants gain valuable creative skills and a platform to share their stories authentically, fostering a sense of agency and belonging. We are dedicated to creating meaningful, positive change by supporting young people to raise their aspirations and shape their own futures.
Fotograf is a photography education programme based in East Africa, created and led by established photographer and chair of Fotograf Julian Claxton. Since its inception in 2015, the programme has delivered free, accessible photography workshops to young people in Rwanda & Uganda, particularly those from deprived and underrepresented backgrounds.
Over the past eleven years, Fotograf has worked extensively with young people who have limited access to creative education, providing extracurricular learning opportunities through the use of recycled and donated camera equipment. The programme removes financial and social barriers to participation, ensuring that creative learning is inclusive and equitable.
