This year’s First Light Festival opening parade theme celebrates the 13 Full Moons which rise in our skies this year. 

Join us at our community making days  — the Festival Fundays — where you can create a moon costume to use in the opening parade and learn the community mass dance, The Big Bang Boogie!

Festival Fundays take place on:

• 10 April 13:00-15:00 wacky space deely boppers

• 24 April 10:30 – 11:30 papier mache space helmets & Moon headbands

• 1 May 10:30 – 11:30 papier mache space helmets, moon head bands & rocket packs

• Sat 16 May 10:30 – 12:00 Moon head bands & rocket packs & BIG BANG BOOGIE !

• 22 May 10:30 – 11:30  3D collage Herrings!

• 28 May 10:00 – 15:00 with Space East

• 5 June 10:30 – 12:00  3D Collage Herrings

• Sat 13 June 13:00 – 15:00 Final chance to create some props for the opening parade!

Free to attend. All supplies included but bring any tubes, glitter, baubles that you want to reuse.

Parade starts at East Point Pavilion at 11:00 on 20 June 2026.
